I have spent my career working to protect what’s best about our region: our air, water, forests, watersheds, farms and open space. During the last four years as your senator, I have championed key environmental legislation. We now have one of the strongest oils spills protection program in the country and are significantly reducing the amount of deadly toxins in our Puget Sound and ocean due to a ban on the use of toxic copper in bottom paint and brake pads. I played a key role in securing legislation eliminating toxics in baby bottles and toys.
As chair of the Natural Resources committee, I lead the effort to save our State Parks and other recreational areas from closure – protecting our natural resources and the over 14,000 jobs statewide that depend upon them.
I am proud of my significant environmental record as your senator. I know that healthy natural environments support healthy human communities and economies. I will continue to be a strong advocate for our environment, working tirelessly to protect all of our regions natural and recreational resources.
